2. Inheritance in Christ
Read Book of 2 Corinthians

Chapters 1 and 2
Paul uses his experience of suffering to comfort the Corinthian believers. He had also experienced God as the source of comfort in his afflictions. He assures them that God will comfort them in their sufferings for the sake of the gospel.

Chapters 3 and 4
Paul claims to be a minister of the new covenant of grace, which is far superior to the old covenant of law. The sufferings he faced in living out his destiny in Christ were light, when compared with the glory God was storing up for him as an eternal reward.

Chapter 5
Pauls ministry is part of the divine plan where God sent His Son Jesus Christ to reconcile sinners to Himself through His atoning death on the cross. Paul reminded the Corinthian believers that all Christians, including himself, were "ambasadors for Christ." ( An ambassador is a representative or spokesman of a nation or its ruler.) Those who follow Christ are commissioned as His messengers to an unbelieving world.

Chapter 6
Paul wants them to understand that troubles and tribulations are a natural result of serving Christ.
He instructs that they are not to be "unequally yoked with unbelievers."

Chapters 8 and 9
Paul reminded the Corinthians of Jesus' example of giving His life unselfishly on their behalf. The love of Christ is the controlling motive for all giving.

Chapters 10 and 11
Paul warns against deceitful teachers who would lead the Corinthian believers to follow them rather than point the church to Christ.
He lists the various tribulations he has suffered as a minister of the gospel.

Chapters 12 and 13
Paul talks of a "thorn in the flesh" - the messenger of Satan (the Judaizers who were "buffeting" him wherever he went). After pleading with the Lord three times to take this problem away, he came to the revelation that God's power is made perfect in human weakness. Therefore servants of the Lord must depend on His never-failing strength.

Affirmations (Repeat and Meditaton on These as You Go Throughout the Day):

II Corinthians 3:18 - As the Spirit of the Lord works in me, I become more and more like Him.

II Corinthians 4:1 - Since God, in His mercy, has given me this wonderful ministry, I never give up.

II Corinthians 4:6 - For God who said “let the light shine out of darkness”, made His light shine in my heart to give me the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

II Corinthians 4:10 - Every day I experience something of the death of Jesus, so that I may also show the power of the life of Jesus in my body.

II Corinthians 4:18 - My eyes are fixed, not on the things that are seen, but on the things that are unseen: for what is seen passes away; what is unseen in eternal.

II Corinthians 5:15 - He died for me so that I who live - having received eternal life from Him - might live no longer for myself, to please myself; but to spend my life pleasing Christ who died and rose again for me.

II Corinthians 5:17 - Since I am ingrafted in Christ I am a new creature altogether: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

11 Corinthians 5:18 - God has given me the ministry of reconciliation, that through Jesus Christ, I might bring others into harmony with Him.

11 Corinthians 5:20 - I am an ambasador for Christ.

II Corinthians 5:21 - God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him I might become the righteousness of God.

II Corinthians 3:6 - I am a minister of the Spirit since God has made me fit and worthy and sufficient as a minister and dispenser of the new covenant.

II Corinthians 6:16 - I am the temple of the living God.

which is being interpreted the ___________.

2. Inheritance in Christ
Read Book of 1 Corinthians

Chapter 1
Paul points out the need of cleansing the church from party divisions, man-worship, and glorying in worldly wisdom.

Chapter 2
Human beings cannot discover God's wisdom on their own. But God has given us His written Word that tells us about Him and His nature. The Holy Spirit enables us to interpret His written Word. These two gifts from God lead us to understand "the mind of Christ."

Chapter 3
Quarreling of the Corinthians over human leadership shows they are immature in their spiritual development. God, not human leaders, is the source of wisdom and spiritual growth.
Jesus is the foundation on which every believer's life should be built. Each believer is a temple of the Holy Spirit, a place where God dwells. Jesus should be the focus of our lives. In Him alone -- not human leaders -- should we place our trust.

Chapter 4
Paul gives an example of discipleship - where he discipled Timothy and now Timothy is discipiling others in the body of Christ.

Chapter 5
Paul deals with the problem of sexual sin. He advises the church to exercise discipline by expelling the unrepentant sinner.
We are not to judge non-believers and isolate ourselves from them. Rather, we are to bear our witness fo Jesus before them. But we are called to withdraw from fellow believers who continue in willful sin.

Chapter 6
Paul reminds the Church at Corinth to cleanse themselves from litigation between fellow believers. Paul declares that sexual relationships outside the bonds of marriage are a perversion of God's plan.

Chapter 7
Paul answers questions from the Corinthians on the nature and meaning of marriage.

Chapter 8
Paul discusses eating meat that has been offered to idols; ie. abstaining from eating such meat if the practice offended weaker Christians.

Chapter 9
Pauls example of the surrender of certain personal rights and liberties for the sake of winning men to Christ.

Chapter 10
Paul warns to stay away from idol worship. Our freedom in the Lord should not blind us to the fact that we must avoid certain activities that hinder our Christian witness before others. We bring glory to God when we seek the good of others, not our individual rights.

Chapter 11
The poor were being discriminated against in the Lord's Supper because they had no food to bring. This added to the problem of factions in the Church. The Corinthians were descrating the Lord's Supper by turning it into a feast.

Chapter 12
Paul addresses the issue spiritual gifts: speaking in tongues, prophecy, working of miracles etc.

Chapter 13
Love ranks above hope and faith. "Love never fails."

Chapter 14
Paul declares that prophecy is actually more important than speaking in tongues because it builds up and edifies the church. Also the importance of maintaining proper order in the public assemblies.

Chapter 15
The reality of the Risen Christ; faith's reality.

Chapter 16
Paul's closing instructions and salutations.

Insensitivity To Spiritual Hearing

Hebrews 5:11 -- Concerning this we have much to say which is hard to explain, since you have become dull in your (spiritual) hearing and sluggish (even slothful in achieving spiritual insight).

They were not in need of hearing aids; rather their inward man had digressed to become insensitive to spiritual things.

The Holy Spirit does not communicate to our head but to our spirit. You can be a believer for years and not develop your spirit.

Scripture tells us that John The Baptist "Grew and became strong in spirit". Regarding spiritual development, Paul told Timothy to give himself entirely to it "that your progress may be evident to all."

Luke 1:80 -- And the little boy grew and became strong in spirit.

Paul encourages them to express through their actions the underlying unity that exists in the body of Christ -- this calls for patience and humility.
God in His wisdom has given many different abilities to the people in His church. They exercise their abilities as apostles, prophets, evengelists, pastors, and teachers. All these abilities are needed if the church is to function properly.

Chapter 5

PRODUCING THE MIRACLE

John 15:7,8 -- "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples."

Some are willing to spend hours in prayer asking for a miracle instead of planting the word of God in their hearts, which in time would produce the miracle. Prayer is what water and fertilizer are to a seed. They help the word release it's life.

But if you haven't planted the seed, it doesn't matter how much water and fertilizer you apply, the soil still won't produce fruit. It's the seed that has life.

Matthew 13:23 -- "The one who received the seed in rich soil is the man who hears the word and understands it; who accordingly bears fruit"........."

Hebrews 4:12 -- For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword..........
